Abstract

This study examines bhu khani ra wali as a local philosophy of the Homfolo community in Sentani, Papua, in constructing contextual and ecological Christian faith. The study departs from the dichotomy between faith and tradition, which often causes Christian education to become abstract and detached from the lived experiences of the community. This research employs a qualitative interpretative-constructivist approach through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The findings show that bhu khani ra wali, which means “land and water are my life,” is not merely cultural wisdom, but an ontological and axiological foundation that connects human beings, God, ancestors, land, water, and the environment. This value shapes faith as a relational praxis expressed through responsibility for caring for creation. In Christian education, bhu khani ra wali serves as a theological-pedagogical foundation for forming a grounded, ecological, and transformative faith. The novelty of this study lies in positioning local wisdom as a foundation for constructing contextual Christian faith.
